Prayer Focus Bulletin 2010-07-26
Help wanted: sensitive regions
Someone serving in a sensitive location writes, "More support personnel are needed and are being actively recruited…but only prayer makes it happen. Pray for more people with willingness to leave home and come, not being intimidated by an unfamiliar country and its culture. You can help also by speaking a word to your friends, acquaintances, and family. 'For who dares make light of small beginnings?' Zechariah 4:10." If you sense the Holy Spirit calling you to a greater involvement in missions, take courage and step into the freedom and adventure He has in store for you.
Linguistics and translation workshop: El Salvador
Bible Translators of El Salvador (Traductores Bíblicos de El Salvador, or TRES*) is preparing for a workshop on linguistics and translation to be held on Saturday, July 31. More than 30 people have shown an interest in attending. Pray that those who attend will be open to a call from the Lord to join the ministry of Bible translation. Ask God to give guidance to those who are organizing and leading this meeting; pray He will give them direction regarding the content of the presentations to be given, and wisdom in preparing the materials to be used.
Translation consultants: Asia
Pray for the experienced translators who have agreed to take on the additional role of translation consultant. They receive special training and mentoring so they can check* the translations of other translators. Usually this means that their work on their own translation project slows down while they check Scripture translations for other language groups. Pray for those in training to be consultants. And pray for a good balance of work time for those who have added this additional role.
Ministry vision-building trip: Peru
Pray for Peruvian pastors and other Christian leaders who will participate in a vision-building trip to the Panao Quechua region August 5-8. They will have the opportunity to share in the launch of the New Testament in the Panao Quechua language on August 7. Pray that this trip will give them time to converse with people involved in Bible translation, gain a better understanding of the work, and develop a vision for translation and literacy. Pray they will convey this increased understanding to the people in the churches they represent.
Bolinao New Testament revision: Philippines
Pray for the team working on revisions of 1 & 2 Corinthians and Mark in the Bolinao language. The team is also checking the accuracy of various key terms*, introductory material, outlines, headings and footnotes. Pray for a hunger and thirst among the Bolinao people for God’s Word in their language. Pray that God will raise up and enable the person He wants to become a Scripture Use and Distribution Coordinator to promote the Bolinao Scriptures.
MegaVoice brings the True Light: Vanuatu
"This is a true light shining in my life now. I've now found the message I've been looking for." The chief of a North Tanna village is thankful for the gift of a MegaVoice audio player which has enabled him to hear God’s message of life and peace to mankind in the language he understands best. The audio player has on it the New Testament in the chief’s mother tongue. Thank God that these players are available. Thank Him for all the hard work that has gone into developing these players and for the people who faithfully fund and distribute them.
A great related-languages opportunity: Papua New Guinea
Several closely related languages in the Morehead area of Western Province await translation help. Morehead station would be a good place for establishing a training facility for a multi-language program*. Jeong-Seok and Sun-Young Park from Korea have gone to live in this area. They plan to start by facilitating a language program in one language community with the goal of eventually helping other language communities as well. Pray that God will bring additional translation teams together so that God's Word will become available to all these related language communities.
