Prayer Focus Bulletin 2010-09-06
Fundamental Course in Linguistics and Anthropology: El Salvador
The Fundamental Course in Linguistics and Anthropology will take place September 6 through October 2. Pray that the course will benefit the students greatly; and for the Lord to confirm the call to various ones to work in Bible translation. Pray that God will guide the teachers and give them wisdom so that they not only teach the necessary material, but that they also transmit a passion for our Lord and for those who are unreached with the gospel. Ask God to provide for these students and for the ministry of TRES--Translators of El Salvador.
Scripture Media: West Asia
In places where religious freedom is restricted, Scripture distribution is a challenge. Publishing Scripture via websites is one solution. Pray for a recording of Old Testament stories which will take place in September for a language of West Asia. This will also be a time of training one of the national workers in recording techniques. Pray for clear communication among expatriate and national team members who speak three different mother tongues. Pray that God will direct many people to the website where this recording will be distributed.
Purposeful travels: USA
Pray for Margaret, the Africa Area Scripture Use Coordinator, for safe and useful travels from now through September 19. Until September 12, she is in Dallas, Texas, mainly teaching in a trauma healing training course. On September 12 she flies to Orlando, Florida. One thing she will do there is work with Campus Crusade for a few days to see how the length of the Genesis film* can be reduced. She writes, "Please do pray for safe travels, good adaptation to the different places and people, and that I will be a blessing to those I will be with."
Linguistics Forum follow-up: Hungary
International Linguistics Coordinator Mike Cahill reports that all who needed a visa got one in time for the Global Linguistics Forum in Hungary during August. Participants from 22 countries enjoyed good worship times, insightful presentations on linguistics information and issues, and lots of interaction with linguists working around the world. Praise the Lord for these answers to prayer. Please pray that the new networks of professional friendships developed at the Forum will continue to flourish, and people will continue to develop the “Best Practices” statements that were started there.
Insights into sustainability: India
Praise God for the principles that Wycliffe India is following in assisting people to improve their lives. They work to equip individuals and communities to identify their potential and resources and to use them optimally for their own betterment—to serve the whole community. For example, using the "participatory method approach", they assisted one village of the Korwa people in the process of deciding they needed a tube well. Pray that the Lord will continue to help these cross-cultural workers to be trail blazers in bringing holistic transformation among the people even as they work in language development, storying and translation.
Final review of the Rapa Nui New Testament: Easter Island, Chile
Thank God for the well-trained and experienced team working on the final review of the Rapa Nui New Testament. Pray for good health, concentration, wisdom, harmony, freedom from discouragement and weariness, and for perseverance to complete the work well. Pray for the team members to be personally touched by the Word as they work. May there be spiritual understanding, conviction, faith to believe, spiritual growth and boldness to witness. Ask God to provide all that is needed to keep the team working.
Not falling at the last hurdle: eastern Democratic Republic of Congo
The Mayogo project is nearing the end of the journey to translate the New Testament with just five epistles left to translate. An experienced translator has left the project; a second translator has been struggling to balance translation and other responsibilities; and a third has just arrived back from further education, so needs time to organize his fields and crops on which the family depends. Please pray for the project to keep up the momentum in these final months, to maintain focus on the work despite many distractions, and for health, safety and food for the translators and their families.
